Visual Resources offers a variety of services to members of the Princeton community around finding, making, and using images for research and teaching. These include one on one or small group consultations concerning:
- photographic equipment purchases;
- camera use and photography techniques;
- best practices for image digitization;
- copyright and image permissions;
- … and more!
Image Production, Acquisitions, and Permissions
With sufficient advance notice, Visual Resources can assist faculty in the Department of Art and Archaeology in capturing high quality digital images for research or teaching from books, photographs, slides, negatives, artworks, and other types of print media using a camera or scanner. Visual Resources can also assist with image acquisitions and permissions for book projects and, depending on staff availability, articles. In an effort to anticipate the image permission needs of faculty, we share a short survey at the start of each semester and summer asking basic questions about upcoming book projects.
Visual Resources does its best to fulfill requests for support and are able to do that most effectively when we have accurate information about image needs and deadlines. We are also available to provide short, individualized training sessions for graduate students hired by faculty to help with more specialized or immediate needs regarding image acquisitions and permissions.
